Dudley Zoological Gardens – Tecton Building Refurbishment
Client: Dudley Zoological Gardens
Role: Quantity Surveyor/ CDM Coordinator
Sector: Leisure/ Culture
PMP were appointed as Quantity Surveyors and CDM Coordinator on the Dudley Zoological Gardens’ project. The scheme involved the sensitive refurbishment of the listed Lubetkin-designed concrete structures, the greatest collection of surviving Tecton buildings in the world.
Over time, the Tecton structures fell into disrepair and were subsequently not utilised, and the lack of use led to the buildings deteriorating, and suffering quite badly from corrosion. The project involved the refurbishment of four Tecton structures (a HLF funded project). The Station Cafe, Entrance, Bear Ravine and adjacent Kiosk were all restored.
