With refurbishments making steady progress, the Merry Hill Shopping Centre in Brierley Hill is due for completion in July 2021!
Developed in 1985, Merry Hill Shopping Centre is located only three minutes’ walk from the scenic Dudley Canal. The centre currently includes over 250 shops, a retail park, cinema, food hall and ten thousand parking spaces, attracting millions of visitors each year.
PMP are acting as quantity surveyors and contract administrators on the £12 million external cladding replacement and façade alterations to Merry Hill. We’re working alongside contractor; MAC Group, architects and principal designer; INC Design and Workman LLP, who are acting as project managers for this exciting development.
The scheme is part of the modernisation of the shopping centre, which has taken place over seven phases. This included refurbishments to the car parks and bus station that were completed over the past several years.
Refurbishments for the shopping centre include:
- The installation of curved Rockpanel cladding at the Debenhams entrance, which appears blue, green and purple. Energy–saving LED lighting has been integrated into the cladding to create a stunning visual display at night.
- Rockpanel cladding has also been used at the Argos entrance and features similar gold shades in a variety of finishes.
- Entrance layouts have been reconfigured, and energy–saving lighting installed with large media screens.
- The façade at the Primark entrance has been upgraded, and projections such as diamonds and pyramids are displayed to provide an impactful front elevation.
Merry Hill is already considered a retail hot spot in the West Midlands, and has already seen major new investment from multiple high-end companies since the beginning of the pandemic. Now that lockdown restrictions are loosening, more and more shoppers are eager to see the amazing work created by the team!
