Project Description

Derwent Works, Henrietta Street

Client: Javelin Block

Role: Quantity Surveying

Sector: Residential/ Regeneration

Value: £1.1m

Working with client, Javelin Block, who have been responsible for the re-birth of many of the iconic heritage buildings located in the Jewellery Quarter, this development entailed refurbishing and extending an existing three-storey Victorian building and rear warehouse into four large loft-style apartments. The building, known as Derwent Works, a traditional Jewellery Quarter building and former metal press, has been carefully transformed into luxury apartments while maintaining the historical integrity and heritage of the building.

As well as four modern apartments, the scheme also included the creation of a heritage boxing and fitness gym at ground-floor level. A contemporary, but sympathetic three-storey side and rear extension to Victorian building was also created to enhance the industrial-style of the original building. The project was very much about exposing and preserving as much of the building’s original features as possible. As such, steelwork, beams and brik have been left exposed, unveiling, retaining and highlighting original features where possible.
