Broad Street Meeting Hall, Coventry
Client: Broad Street Meeting Hall
Role: Quantity Surveying
Broad Street Meeting Hall is a multi-cultural facility serving a range of communities in Foleshill, Coventry, which has been operating for 18 years. The previous building on the site was outdated and no longer fit-for- purpose. The project brief was to create a brand new two-storey, 440-square-metre steel-frame building, replacing a dilapidated single-storey concrete building on the existing site.
Construction involved a new concrete slab, a steel-frame, suspended concrete floors, a pitched EPDM roof with roof lights, block/ rockwool cavity walls with EPDM with a grey render finish to the front and rear elevations. The coloured terracotta pipes on the external of the building reference the colour of the houses in sequential order along the street. The internal finish is a combination of natural wood, partition walls and
glazed screens to maximise natural light. Internal rooms and fittings include two large meeting rooms, one on each floor, each with capacity for 60 people seated, toilet facilities on both floors, and a lift and a catering- standard kitchen on the ground floor. The team worked to a construction budget, agreed at Stage 2, of £914,849, including VAT, demolition, professional fees, fixtures, fittings, equipment, inflation and contingency.
