University of Birmingham Catering Upgrades

Appointed as Contract Administrators, Quantity Surveyors and Project Managers, on the campus-wide redevelopment, the project focused on creating aesthetic improvements to a number of catering outlets across the main campus.
Introducing more personality and character into the facility’s social spaces was one of the core objectives of the scheme, while also ensuring they enhanced productivity and service outputs. Five catering establishments were chosen to undergo redevelopment, including:
- Winterbourne House Café: This café utilises a double-serve kiosk to increase server volume and efficiency. The front counter has been cladded with distressed wood panels to match the poster frame.
- Revive (Murray Learning Centre): This space acts as a fast-food service, similar to that of many high-street brands. Here, the team have combined the location (next to the train station) with the idea of speed and efficiency.
- Café Go / Café Mex (University Centre): Both of these cafes are high-volume and have been designed to stand out from each other as two separate businesses. Contrasting white tiles have been provided in addition to wood panel cladding, which covers the entire height and width of the backwall.
- Main Library Café: This coffee shop varies dramatically in its volume through the academic year. It’s location on campus, along with its role during the lead up to exams makes it a critical venue.
- Bramhall Music Building Café: This café sits at the front door of the university, and while it makes a steady trade throughout the day, it also needs to be able to deal with high-volume interval trading.
