We are pleased to announce that PMP are acting as Quantity Surveyor on the shell, core and fit out of a new building at Abingdon and Witney College!

The project, located on the Abingdon Campus is funded by the Oxfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership (OLEP) and directly follows on from the development of the Bicester Construction Skills Centre which opened in February 2021. We are working alongside Robothams Architects and Contractor, EG Carter on the scheme.

Currently in the construction phase, the development forms part of the college’s multi-million-pound investment to enhance their learning facilities to better teach students career-specific skillsets – in particular those skills required by sustainable technology and renewable industries. The project is taking place over two phases:

  • Phase 1 – Construction of the main building and associated external works.
  • Phase 2 – External landscaping and reconfiguration of parking space

The building will contain both practical and theory classrooms and green technology demonstration space. This will enable the college to meet their objective of “adapting and evolving with both local and economic demands while learning about and using sustainable technologies”, including the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI). To reflect this goal, the scheme incorporates the use of photovoltaics, sustainable timber usage and sustainable urban drainage, while being in keeping with the other surrounding centres on site.

The new centre aims to be completed by September 2022, in time for the beginning of the new academic year, and will offer a range of school engagement programmes and exhibition space, enabling the college to better tackle the growing skill shortage in the industry, and building interest in young people within the sustainability agenda.
